“Open for Climate Justice: An Across-Disciplines Fair” is an interactive climate justice event organized by Concordia University Library and 4TH Space in conjunction with the theme of this year’s International Open Access Week.

The event will feature a variety of science-fair style booths in an interactive environment, broadcast live from 4TH Space, exploring climate justice through forms of open scholarship and education: open access publishing, open science, open data, open source, and open educational resources (OER).

Want to learn more about how climate justice work can connect and collaborate with open movements? Want to learn about how the right to share and access data, information, and knowledge equitably can benefit climate justice research and educational work? Come drop in and participate in Open Access Week at Concordia!

Booths hosted by Concordians (professors, librarians, professionals, editor(s), doctoral candidate(s), postdoc, and students):

  • Climate Justice Content Finder: Librarians and OER work-study students showcase how to find climate justice content in the form of OER, open data, and more (Rachel Harris, Alex Guindon, Sarah Fakhri, Jonnathan Koonings, Sana Ahmad)
  • The Library Presents Seer: A divination game highlighting the importance of open access and questioning sources. This interactive digital experience exposes people to intriguing, bite-sized facts drawn from open-access sources. (Joshua Chalifour, Francisco Berrizbeitia, David Clark, and a team of fact-seeking volunteers)
  • Climate Geopardy with the Climate Emergency Committee: Drop by to learn about Concordia's Climate Emergency Committee and test your climate crisis knowledge with a round of the quiz game Climate Geopardy! (Alexandre Pace, Jaynina Deku)
  • Concordia Open Science Working Group: Meet the Concordia research group raising awareness about open science and engage with interactive resources that test your open science knowledge and let you add your own open science-related questions, comments, concerns, and experiences. (Krista Byers-Heinlein, Nicolás Alessandroni/COSWG)
  • Citizen Science: Learn how citizen science platforms like iNaturalist improve bioliteracy and learn how to document local biodiversity! Download the app and use it to explore biodiversity from your own home. (Emma Despland, Jackie Martin, Queena Ying-En Ng)
  • Concordia University Press: How can you disseminate important research findings through open access to reach more readers and researchers? Stop by to meet representatives from Concordia University Press, a non-profit open-access book publisher, to learn more about publishing models and platforms. (Ryan Van Huijstee and Meredith Carruthers/CUP)

Special thanks to fellow co-hosts of booths, to 4TH Space, and to Saelan Twerdy and colleagues for assisting with outreach logistics - Rachel Harris
