Become a first responder (CERT) - training in the Library
The invitation is open to staff who is already a CERT member or wish to be part of The Concordia Emergency Response Team (CERT) who assist during evacuations and other emergencies that may occur on campus. Trainings will be given at both Webster and Vanier Library. Please note, space is limited.
Dates:
Wednesday May 14th – 9 am to 1 pm (Webster Library LB-362)
Wednesday May 21st – 9 am to 1 pm (Vanier Library VL-203)
Description:
- CERT Orientation
- A Library walkthrough will be done as a part of the training.
Additional Information:
As a CERT member, your primary duties will take place during building evacuations or for a Shelter-in-place emergencies. You may also be called upon for other emergencies such as first aid or to support emergency operations during a disaster. During a building evacuation, duties may include:
• Inform people in your building that they must evacuate.
• Direct them to the nearest emergency exit stairwells.
• Verify that everyone has been evacuated and, if possible, close doors and windows.
• Assist those who require help to the nearest exit.
• Assist mobility-impaired persons to evacuate using an Evac-Chair.
• Assist other responders trying to contain a fire by using a portable fire extinguisher.
• Report on the status of your assigned area.
• Ensure building perimeters during emergencies.
